Why is travel so important for my creativity?

Travel and daily adventure is a huge part of my life. I was definitely born under wondering star. My Dad was an army brat and my mum has huge appetite for travel and adventures- she and my step dad have  just returned from Pakistan and before that Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, in between those trips walking the Cornish coast path and Wye valley plus daily adventures- we joke that they are international spies because they’re always off to random places! With these people as parents I was never going to be a home bird!

Travel fills my soul- my favourite places to travel are in epic nature! I’ve seen some truly awe inspiring vistas, rain forests, volcanoes, mountains, lakes + oceans. It excites me more than anything else, it’s where I feel most connected + ALIVE

Recently I visited Iceland. I turned 30 in October and  decided that is how I wanted mark it. The wild landscape and northern lights were calling to me! And what a great decision it was. My mind was completely BLOWN.

We rented a 4x4 and drove along the south coast right over to the east side. The drives were ridiculously scenic, long roads passing canyons, waterfalls, volcanoes + lava fields with huge waves and black sand beaches on the other side. My eyes were constantly wide is amazement! Then we would pull over into small rough car parks and walk to the most awe inspiring feats of nature. I felt like I was on a different planet!

Although it’s not a ‘lush’ country abundant with flowers and plants in winter time I found so much inspiration there- textures, colour palettes, wild dried grasses, shapes and so much more!

When I change up my routine and location (especially to somewhere so wildly beautiful + raw!) rest- shedding responsibility and spending less time on my phone/laptop, abundance and inspiration FLOWS! I get my best ideas when I’m in this state. Creating the space for them. There is so much to be said for taking a break and filling your soul. It doesn’t have to be a whole week, I try to have a mini adventure everyday just dropping in being present and curious looking at things with fresh eyes. It’s a reset for me but so much more.

I learn so much when I’m away visiting a new place- about the place but also myself. Sounds cheesy but stick with me!

This trip to Iceland really showed me the pure POWER of Mother Nature. I was IN the elements- gale force winds, sandstorms, heavy swirling rain, snow, sunshine. We saw + felt the power of waterfalls and huge waves crashing.

In my spiritual practises I work very elementally connecting to the earth, air, fire + water, this showed me just how strong they can be. It made me feel so small yet connected to something so vast- it’s hard to explain. I’ll be digesting all the wonder of this trip for a long while.

I’ve come back with even more respect for our incredible planet, it’s magical. I feel refreshed and inspired.

Is travel and adventure important to you? What makes it so special? How will you incorporate a little more adventure, curiosity and presence into your day?

Thanks for reading!
